Dreaming of Burlap
The original symbolic meaning of burlap was degradation. People wearing clothes made of burlap indicated that they were even more humble than dust. Therefore, the phrase "to dig into pockets and piles of ashes" also carries this meaning. In a dream, burlap represents a sense of humiliation, as the dreamer debases themselves through their actions.
Burlap can also symbolize regret. The dreamer may have a feeling of self-deprecation while simultaneously wishing to express remorse for their actions to the world.
In ancient times, openly displaying one's grief and sorrow for the loss of a loved one was customary, and burlap was used to represent the pain and sadness of the bereaved. This is known as wearing sackcloth and ashes.
