The Code of Dream-Transmitted Messages
Some people believe that dreams are like doodles, meaningless and random. However, there are many who believe that dreams hold significance. For instance, when a person feels hungry during sleep, they dream about food, and when they have a full bladder, they dream about searching for a restroom. In a way, dreams carry meaningful information and convey messages to us.
- Dreams as Indicators of Physical Conditions: The ancient Chinese medical scripture, "Huangdi Neijing," states, "When Yin energy is excessive, one dreams of crossing vast waters with fear; when Yang energy is excessive, one dreams of great fires and burns; extreme hunger leads to dreams of taking, and extreme satiety leads to dreams of giving; when Liver energy is excessive, one dreams of anger." These statements indicate that dreams are connected to our physical conditions, serving as indicators to some extent.
- Dreams as Inspirations: During sleep, the body is actively engaged, and the brain organizes the accumulated information of the day, filters out essential matters, and stores them in various memory slots for further processing. This process helps stimulate our creative inspiration. Throughout history, there have been individuals who found solutions to problems through their dreams. For example, Elias Howe, an inventor, had long been trying to invent a machine for sewing two pieces of fabric together but couldn't find an ideal solution. One night, he dreamt of being chased by cannibals in Africa, and the cannibals' spears had small holes near the tips. Upon waking up, he had a revelation and invented the needle with an eye near the pointed end for sewing machines.
- Dreams as Omens: While it may be easier to understand dreams as indicators of physical conditions and sources of inspiration, many people remain skeptical about dreams predicting the future or foreshadowing good or bad fortune. Dream experts often hear people claiming to have had dreams that foreshadowed future events. Although the scientific community has not yet confirmed whether dreams can truly predict the future, various hypotheses have been put forward. Interpretations of dreams have always been speculative, indicating that our understanding of dreams is still limited and superficial. There are many gaps in the scientific understanding of dreams. Nevertheless, we cannot deny that dreams serve as a "storage room" for a person's inner memories and a "window" to external signals.
